What Meme Generator does
The familiar meme format is white uppercase text with a black outline, placed at the top and bottom of an image. This applies exactly that to a picture you supply.
Text is drawn onto the image in the page and exported as a PNG.
- Top and bottom caption text
- Automatic uppercase, in the conventional style
- Live preview before download
- Exports as PNG

Add an image

When to use it
Reaction images
The two-caption format is the convention for a reason: setup on top, punchline underneath.
Labelling a screenshot
Adding a short caption to a screenshot before sharing it in a chat or an issue.
Internal presentations
A captioned image makes a point faster than a bullet list, provided the text is short.
Limits and known behaviour
- Font size, colour, position and typeface are fixed; only the text is adjustable.
- Long captions can overflow the image edges, because text is not wrapped or shrunk to fit.
- The classic Impact typeface is used only if it is installed on your system. Most Linux and Android devices fall back to another sans-serif font.
- The preview canvas is limited to 600 pixels wide, so very large source images are scaled down.
- No meme templates are provided; supply your own image.
Privacy and data handling
Runs entirely in your browser
- Your image is decoded and redrawn by the browser inside this page. It is never uploaded.
- Nothing is stored; the file and the result disappear when you close the tab.
Site-wide data handling, including analytics and advertising, is described in the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my text look different from the classic meme font?
The style relies on Impact, which ships with Windows and macOS but not with most Linux distributions or Android devices. No web font is downloaded, so those systems substitute another sans-serif face.
Why is my caption running off the edge?
Text is drawn at a fixed size and is not wrapped. Shorten the caption or split it between the top and bottom fields.
Why is the text always uppercase?
It follows the convention the format established, and uppercase reads more clearly at small sizes against a busy photograph.
Will people using screen readers see the caption?
No. Text drawn onto an image is pixels, not text, so it cannot be read out or selected. If the caption carries meaning, repeat it in the alt text or the post itself wherever you share the image.
