How these tools behave

  • Converting an image with transparency to JPEG flattens the transparent areas, because JPEG has no alpha channel.
  • Compression is lossy for JPEG and WebP: re-compressing an already compressed image degrades it further.
  • Face blurring uses a face-detection model served from this site, not from a third party.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats are supported?

PNG, JPEG and WebP. AVIF, HEIC and RAW camera formats are not supported, because they depend on decoders the browser does not reliably expose.

Does compressing an image twice halve the size again?

No. Lossy compression discards detail that cannot be recovered; a second pass mostly adds artefacts for very little further saving.
