Split PDF

Select the pages you want from a PDF and save them as a new document.

What Split PDF does

Extracting pages is useful when only part of a document should be shared: one section of a report, a single signed page, or a chapter from a book-length file.

Page thumbnails are rendered so you can see what you are selecting, and the pages you tick are copied into a new PDF without being re-encoded.

  • Preview every page as a thumbnail
  • Select individual pages, or select and deselect all
  • Produce one new PDF containing the selected pages

How to use Split PDF

  1. 1

    Open your PDF

Thumbnails are generated for each page. Long documents take a moment.

  2. 2

    Select the pages to keep

Tick the pages you want. Use select all as a starting point when you are removing only a few.

  3. 3

    Split and download

A single new document containing the selected pages is created for download.

When to use it

Sharing only what is relevant

Send the two pages someone actually needs instead of a forty-page report.

Removing pages

Select everything except the pages you want gone, and save the result.

Separating a scan batch

Pull one document out of a stack that was scanned in a single pass.

Limits and known behaviour

  • The output is one PDF containing your selection, not a separate file per page. To get individual files, split repeatedly.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. The PDF library used here has no decryption support, so an encrypted file is rejected rather than partially processed. Remove the password in a PDF reader first.
  • Removing pages does not remove content from the pages that remain. Redaction is a different operation, and text hidden behind a black box is still in the file.
  • Bookmarks and links pointing to pages you did not keep will no longer resolve.
  • There is no file size limit, but the whole document is held in memory while it is processed. Very large or image-heavy files can make the tab slow or unresponsive on a device with limited RAM.

Privacy and data handling

Runs entirely in your browser

  • Your PDF is read into this page by the browser and rebuilt here. It is never uploaded, so no copy of it exists on any server.
  • The original file on your disk is not modified; the tool produces a new file for you to download.
  • Nothing is kept after you close the tab.

Site-wide data handling, including analytics and advertising, is described in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get one file per page?

Not in a single pass. Select one page, download it, then repeat. The tool produces one document per run.

Is splitting a way to redact a document?

Only if the sensitive content is on pages you drop entirely. Anything on a page you keep is still in the file, including text that appears to be covered.
