What Favicon Generator does
A website needs its icon at several sizes: small ones for browser tabs, larger ones for mobile home screens and progressive web app manifests.
Upload one image and this produces the standard set — 16, 32, 180, 192 and 512 pixels — each downloadable individually.
- 16 and 32 pixel browser-tab icons
- 180 pixel Apple touch icon
- 192 and 512 pixel icons for web app manifests
How to use Favicon Generator
- 1
Upload a square image
Start from a square source at 512 pixels or larger. Non-square images are stretched to fit.
- 2
Review the generated sizes
Look carefully at the 16 pixel version. Detail that reads clearly at 512 usually disappears entirely at 16.
- 3
Download the sizes you need
Each size downloads as a separate PNG file.
- 4
Reference them in your site
Add link tags for the browser icons and list the 192 and 512 pixel versions in your web app manifest.
Limits and known behaviour
- Output is PNG only. No .ico file is produced; modern browsers accept PNG favicons, but a legacy .ico may still be wanted at the site root.
- Files download one at a time rather than as a ZIP bundle.
- Images are stretched to a square, so a non-square logo is distorted. Crop it to a square first.
- No padding, background colour or rounded-corner options are offered.
- No HTML snippet or manifest file is generated.
Privacy and data handling
Runs entirely in your browser
- Your image is decoded and redrawn by the browser inside this page. It is never uploaded.
- Nothing is stored; the file and the result disappear when you close the tab.
Site-wide data handling, including analytics and advertising, is described in the privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need a .ico file?
Rarely. Every current browser accepts PNG favicons declared with link tags. A root favicon.ico remains a harmless fallback for very old software.
Why does my logo look like a smudge at 16 pixels?
Because 16 by 16 is 256 pixels in total. Detailed logos do not survive it. Most brands use a simplified mark — a single letter or shape — for the smallest sizes.
Why is my icon distorted?
The source was not square and has been stretched to fit. Crop to a square before generating.
